By Robert Goolrick
I don't have a great story about why I chose to read this book other than I had seen it around and it seemed like it could be interesting.
Charlie Beale is new to the sleepy town of Brownsburg, Virginia and soon meets Sylvan Glass, the wife of the richest man in town. The two begin a love affair which has catastrophic consequences no one could have foreseen.
I knew when I started this book that all would not end well. As I read, the sense of foreboding increased until Charlie's final (unanticipated by me) action in the book. I had some unanswered questions when it was over but mostly I felt sorry for Charlie and Sylvan and how everything ended.
