TNFNS, Season 6, Ep. 5

SPOILER ALERT!!!

On Sunday, about 10 minutes before The Next Food Network Star was set to begin, Mrs. was flipping through the channels and went to check the description of this week’s episode when she made a realization. The show had started 50 minutes before. Yes, somehow after one week off we forgot what time the show was on. We had to wait to watch it On Demand. The good news, the show was 1 ½ hours this week, so because we watched it sans commercials we were able to knock it out in 64 minutes.

Despite the extended show this week, it was pretty blah. Not much to get excited about. We did receive a treat at the very beginning with Herb doing pull-ups and shadowboxing a brick wall. If only they had played “Eye of the Tiger” in the background. He must have psyched himself up because he was able to hold it together the entire show without crying (at least on camera).

Speaking of which . . . The streak continues! Brianna crying after the first challenge ensured the streak would live on another week. I think we can keep this going the whole season. Serena looks like she could be a crier. And the person voted off is almost a guarantee to shed some tears.

We had a cameo from Brad’s hair. And then he teamed up with Aria to grill hot dogs and hamburgers, and combine milk and ice cream to create milkshakes. And since they neither made the ice cream nor milked the cows themselves, the judges were less than impressed. Paula Deen said her 3 year old grandson could have made their dishes. And I'll do Paula one better and say that even Mrs. could have done it. The good news for Brad and Aria is that only one of them can get voted off next week.

Tom, Serena and Brianna were the big winners this week. Tom out of nowhere might be giving Aarti (and her Aarti Party – or Paarti?) a run for her money. As far as Serena and Brianna, well, if neither of them showed up on next week’s episode I probably wouldn’t even notice. So needless to say I don’t see either of them finishing near the top, despite the big win this week.

Goodbye Paul! He didn’t seem terrible this week, but I’m sure it was the cumulative effect of his annoying attitude throughout the show that doomed him. Bobby sure didn't like the guy. He will not be missed.

Down to seven contestants. Still anyone's game. Might come down to who cries the least.
